See what's happening at the Greater Boston Knitting Guild as we knit our projects and our lives together, one stitch at a time.

Knitting Community

We are happy you're here.  Our Members come from 20 states (so far!), Switzerland, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Australia. The Membership includes beginners, advanced, experts, and all levels in between.

We share a curiosity of all things knit, crochet and fiber.  We provide a variety of programs and events to satisfy the curious.  Together we learn, we teach, we pass the craft down through the next generation and find inspiration.  Our Guild brings the world of making, design, and fiber to our Membership.

Gather your yarn, grab your needles, and join us at any of our events for a smile, a new friend, and a spark of inspiration.  It’s nice to be with people who understand why your stash is so large or your number of works in progress is what it is!

- Cynthia Doherty, President

A Bit About the GBKG

Our Guild is celebrating our 29th year as a community knitting group in the Greater Boston Area. Today we are diverse group of  290+ Knitters, Crocheters and Makers from 20 states and 6 Countries!

From beginners to certified masters, all you need is a curiosity to learn. And learn we do: at our monthly meetings and workshops with experts in the field, from each other, and from our business members and local yarn shops.

GBKG has a reputation as one of the premier Knitting Guilds in New England and we are a  member of the Knitting Guild of America. For 29 years we have brought experts from around the world to educate our members in the art of knitting through monthly meetings and workshops. Along with education, the importance of community is equally strong. Supporting, inspiring, and learning from each other, while making new friends, is our foundation and reaching beyond our doors, with our Community Outreach Programs.

September 2022: "Knitting for Good Month"

Berry Meadow Farm of Vermont, is nestled between the Green Mountains to the east and Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks to the west in the small town of Orwell (population 1250). Their 110 acre farm is home to their herd of Alpacas and flock of Rambouillet and Romeldale Sheep. They produce their own unique knitting and crochet kits, beautiful patterns, exceptional yarn and alpaca garments and home goods.

Eve Jabcobs- Carnahan: Wondering how an artist thinks? Where do the ideas come from? Hear how Eve moved from knitting sweaters to making conceptual mixed media knitted sculpture. Find out how she searched for teachers, synthesized diverse sources, and developed techniques of her own. In this virtual studio visit, you’ll see how Eve makes armatures for my knitted sculptures. For knitters who dream to go beyond clothing, this talk will inspire you to explore knitting in a new way.

Community Outreach

Knitting for Good

Since 1993, we have been putting our needles to work for others as well as ourselves. You can help by knitting a Prayer Shawl for Brigham and Women's Hospital; hats, booties, or sweaters for The Newborn Baby Unit at Boston Medical Center; or clothing for the homeless and others in need through The Knitting Connection.   We also knit period clothing  for interpreters at the Plimoth Patuxet Museums. We like to say it's knitting for GOOD!
